Aerobic vs. Anaerobic

Q: What's the difference between aerobic and anaerobic exercise and which should you do more often?

A:  Aerobic activity is any activity that increases your heartrate to at least 65% of it's maximum for an extended period of time. When doing aerobic activity one shouldn't go into oxygen debt (breathing hard but not hard to breathe) and one would utilize fat as fuel. Best for cardiovascular strength, endurance and fatburning

Anaerobic activity is activity that is done in really intense, short bursts (weight lifting, sprinting, calisthenics, etc.) or if you are exercising above your target heartrate. The fuel used during anaerobic activity is glucose and glycogens (sugars that are stored in our bodies). Best for strength training and body sculpting.

Aerobic activity should be the predominant exercise for good general health. But it really depends upon from whence you cometh and what is in keeping with your current goals. Hope this helps!
